What to learn for November exams

Grade 8:
  • Perspective
  • Beadwork Artists (Xhosa, Ximba, Mahlangu, Monkeybiz) and meanings of Zulu Dolls
  • Heath Nash
NB bring coloured pencils to the exam :-)

Grade 9:
  • Artists studied in class: Hanson, Dunywa, Kentridge, Arnott, Segal
  • practise your unseen analysis and tonal drawing skills 

Grade 10:
  •  Artists studied in class: Nala, Ardmore, De Beer, Verster and Dube
  • practise your unseen analysis skills (learning the elements and principles of art will help you with this)
Your practical exam is based on tonal and colour drawing.

Grade 11
Your exam is based on three themes- Art and Politics (including a question on the Dvd the Art of Persuausion), Art and Spirtuality and Gender Issues.

Your prac exam is a concept drawing, however you may use mixed media.

Umemulo is a function dedicated to young women who adhere to traditional rules until the age when they are ready for marriage. The most important of these is the preservation of virginity until marriage. If a woman breaks this rule, it is regarded as a disgrace upon her and her family. Therefore, in essence, this occasion celebrates a women's self-respect and expresses her family's pride in her. Relatives and friends are invited to rejoice with the family... ""

Grade 9 Artist Alert: George Segal

Grade 9's see if you can answer the following questions about Segal's work:

  • Why do you think Segal created this piece? (I.e. What was his intention?)
  • Identify and dicuss 5 visual clues (i.e the meaning of the blankets)
Use chunks to record your answers on an infographic poster.
