Theory Questions [Total 30 marks]
Drawing Question [Total 20 marks]

Your drawing will be based on a series of objects that represent beauty. You may choose how you would like to create your drawing based on the following options:

1. an observational drawing OR
2.  you can create a figure OR
3. you can create an enhanced drawing by adding imaginative elements to the reference image.

Therefore your exam is 50 marks in 60 minutes.

Your term 2 mark comes from your exam mark plus your Term 2 practical work which was completed in class.

The art of persuasion show how Art is a political tool:
Some points are that:
  • The human figure is an important political logo
  • Art can tell a political lie
  • Art can manipulate people's perceptions of politics
  • Art accessories can create an image of power
  • Art can be placed in everyday places to remind people of political viewpoints (e.g. coins, propaganda posters, statues, carvings, murals, television adverts,  etc.)

Your theme is BEAUTY IN DIVERSITY therefore your figure needs to have an IDENTITY (e.g bling indian/traditional indian/ hipster/ colour blocker/ fashionista/ sportswoman/ ballerina/ unicorn fanatic etc...)


Activity 1:
Use your knowledge of textures, forms and tones to draw your own 3-D person. Think of objects you can collect that will give it a character.

Criteria - for 10 marks
'Beautiful' qualities - does it look beautiful? [5]
Illusions of form & texture - are they convincing?[5]

Activity 2:
Collect a variety of your own materials (recycled!) and construct a beautiful person. Try and establish a character for this person.
Design challenge .... get your character to fit inside a 1litre yoghurt tub for protection!

Criteria  - for 25 marks
Technical skill - no sticky tape, glue or staples!          [5]
Variety in component collection                                   [5]
Expression of a character showing diversity in SA     [5]
Presentation                                                                   [5]

Dear Grade 8s your exam is 1 hour and it is out of 50 marks.  We will also add a mark for your classwork  to your practical mark. your classwork mark is based on completing your printing and homework, as well as your logo.
