Andries Botha: New Media

Your next theme is based on New Media for example analyse Andries Botha's Afrikaner c 1600

(dis)Appearance(s) – the artist’s statement
This exhibition, of sculptures and drawings, looks at creativity not only as an intimate language of individual expression but also acknowledges creativity as integrated into a broader framework of history and culture.
This exhibition pays particular attention to the role of men, masculinity as a metaphor for domination and control, how they have influenced history. Relationships which are developed between a father and a son, lay the framework for these masculine metaphors.
The importance of noticing the smaller things in life, paying attention to the intimate, understanding that we do not impact on the big epic events but rather influence the destinies of those closer to us.
It is necessary for us to remember the value of other people's lives and what they have done, even if we do not agree with them.
We need to live our lives closer to home, pay attention to the particular and acknowledge that our lives are shaped more by the idea of collectivity and less by individuality.
