Grade 12 Trials Revision

Grade 12s your trials theory exam is coming up on thursday:

You are welcome to pop into the studio to use the computers/ netbooks to revise colour images & powerpoints.  You may also read over your past exams and 
In Mrs Moore's words
"Let's concentrate on our collection of chosen artworks that are good examples for the themes we have studied in class. 

Dust off your infographics, grab some Post-it notes (these are a great way to add extra points to your work) - we're going for 100% for your upcoming theory exam!

Optional:
Order your CD collection or put the collection on your flash. However, your infographics should already have all the content you need. "

Remember to learn information based on the following topics:

- Data (D) - name of the artist, title of the work, size & year
- use of formal elements & principles of art (E/P) and their link with the theme
- Artists intention (INT) & Influences (INF)
- links with theme & questions (focus)
-materials & techniques (M/Ts)

Make sure you use legible full sentences and paragraphs to structure your writing.  Remember to use artist's surnames when writing about their works and you must underline the titles of artworks.

REMEMBER TO USE YOUR OWN WORDS AND THAT UNDERSTANDING CONCEPTS AND CREATING YOUR OWN NOTES IS FAR MORE EFFECTIVE THAN PARROT LEARNING!!! Unseen images will test your ability to apply knowledge and practicing  your deductive reasoning skills and learning how to use correct art terminology will assist you with this.

Theme 3 - Art & Politics - you must be able to discuss how these artists use visual clues to illustrate the social political environment of South Africa

Theme 4 - Craft & Applied Art - you must be able to discuss the distinction between craft and applied artists and the role of innovation & tradition in craft.

Theme 7 - New Media - you must be able to discuss how these artists use innovative techniques and whether their work should be considered art or not.

  • Kentridge - Stereoscope - video & music, innovative use of charcoal
  • Botha - Afrikander c 1600 - Installation & movement
  • Dunywa - Ufunani kimi? -performance art
  • Farber- A room of her own- Installation for Dislocation Relocation- 

Theme 8 - Art & the Spiritual Realm 
-discuss the artists use of visual clues to depict the spiritual realm

  • Bell - Shining through the Shadows
  • Rorke's Drift Artists- e.g Nkosi - Pain on the Cross

Theme 9  - Art & Gender Issues-
Discuss the use of visual clues to illustrates perceptions of gender, stereotyping and gender roles

  • Galdhari - Irony
  • Siopis - Dora & the Other Woman
  • Farber- Implanting Africa - part of Dislocation Relocation and issue of Mail-order brides

Andries Botha- Afrikander c 1600- issues of masculinity

Remember that you can repeat artists but you may not repeat artworks.
